in-home newborn session

The space between.

I love an in-home newborn session, especially when there are older siblings involved. The opportunity for a little crossover into not just naturally posed photos but also candid real-life moments delights my heart.

Kelly & John were married at Wentworth Country Club a few years back, then along came the lovely newborn Caroline. And now, adorable Mr. William!

We started the session with some snuggled family photos on the couch. My directive was simply – everyone snuggle up in that corner of the couch.

Cuddle Puddles are my favorite family photos.

People know how they fit together, and toddlers love to find lap space even with a new baby brother or sister in the mix.

To say Caroline is enamored with her little brother is an understatement, the pure joy in her face when she was holding him was immeasurable!

Then we went upstairs to the nursery to do some more ‘traditional’ newborn shots. When there’s a big brother or big sister involved, one of two things generally happens. One parent will hang with the big kid and watch movies and have snacks, or they’ll both come and watch the process.

Either way is fine! I don’t mind a curious audience one bit!

In this case, Caroline found a new set of linking rings and very quietly sat with her dad and set them up, then she got a little inquisitive and wanted to show mom her chain. Over her shoulder. While she was tending to the baby. (And in perfect parallel to what Dad was doing with her) Real life!

Don’t be afraid to have real life moments while I’m taking photos. It just adds to your story!

Here are a few of theirs ?
