Life’s a Beach (Even in a Sweater): Fall Family Photos at Hampton Beach, NH

Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean the beach is off-limits. Fall at Hampton Beach has its own kind of magic—quieter sands, golden light, and just enough of a chill to break out your favorite sweater while still going barefoot in the sand.

This family session was the perfect mix of cozy and carefree. The breeze was crisp, the sky soft, and the beach almost completely ours. There’s something about that off-season calm that makes it even easier for families to settle in, let loose, and just be.

We wandered along the shore, played in the sand, and soaked up every last bit of that autumn glow. No pressure, no stiff poses—just real connection wrapped in warmth and a little salt air.

Thinking about a fall beach session of your own? Here are a few tips to make it work beautifully:

1. Layers are your friend.

Sweaters, shawls, cardigans—whatever keeps you warm without looking too bundled. Fall beach sessions are perfect for mixing texture and cozy colors.

2. Barefoot still works.

Even if it’s chilly, going barefoot can keep things grounded and natural. It also avoids the whole “sand in shoes” situation. Just bring a pair of warm socks and boots for after.

3. Pick your timing.

Sunsets come earlier in the fall, which is great for working around dinner and bedtime. I’ll help you find the best window for light and little humans.

4. Don’t wait for summer.

Some of my favorite beach sessions have been in September and October. The crowds are gone, the colors are rich, and the moments feel a little more intimate.

If you thought beach photos were just for summer, this session says otherwise. Fall is one of the best times to slow down, connect, and capture your family by the sea—no crowds, no stress, just real moments wrapped in warm layers and cooler air.
