Old Orchard Beach Family Session: Chasing Light, Shade, and a Little Bit of Magic

Old Orchard Beach in July is beautiful and busy. If you’ve ever tried to find a quiet patch of sand at 4 PM, you know it’s kind of like a beach towel version of musical chairs.

For family sessions, I usually aim for as late in the day as possible—right before sunset if we can swing it. But when the sun sets close to 9 PM and the kids start crashing by 7, we shift the plan.

This session had a few challenges. The beach was packed, the tide hadn’t pulled back yet, and every sliver of shade was already taken. But we got creative.

We started up near a shed by the beach path—not glamorous, but full of soft grass and much-needed shade. As soon as a spot opened up near the boardwalk, we moved fast and made the most of it.

This family was quick with the smiles and rolled with everything the day threw at us. Sand in shoes, beachgoers all around, bright sun overhead—they showed up, stayed playful, and leaned into the chaos in the best way.

Because here’s the truth: the best sessions aren’t about perfect conditions. They’re about showing up, being yourselves, and letting the moment lead.

Every beach session is a little bit unpredictable—and that’s part of the fun. If your family is up for salty air, sandy feet, and genuine connection, we’ll make it work. You don’t need perfection. You just need to show up.
