Baby Girl C! Derry, NH Baby’s First Year Photos

To say I love this family is an understatement.  Our journey started when big sister Emily was born and a got to have snuggles throughout her first year with Derry, NH baby’s first year photos. At her one-year-old strawberry eating session, I learned that this sweet family of 3 was going to be an even sweeter family of 4! Two little girls are twice the fun!

I have so much fun at their sessions. Catherine’s full of smiles and cuddles and Emily decided I was the best story reader ever and we read 4 or 5 books together while I was taking her pictures. (Good thing I can multitask. haha!) The similarities between the girls at the same age are so fun to note.  Great eyebrows, bright smiles, and complete adoration of their parents.

These are images from Catherine’s newborn session & 6-month session.  These girls fill my heart with so much happiness.

And in conclusion – the obligatory SEO. Derry, NH Baby’s First Year Photos! Melissa Koren Photography photographs good people. Wonderful, loving, quirky, sassy, laughing, fantastic, and often cheeky people like you! You are good people! There are adventures to have and memories to keep so let’s get to it! Niece & Nephews! Seacoast NH Family Photos (of my family!)

Sometimes a family is meant to be and they eventually find their way back to each other.  My brother reconnected with a girl from High School and they family they have built together is the stuff that movies are made of.  We got their 4 kids, and my 1 (that tall one with the giant wing span) (who lives over there as often as he can, so really.. their 5 kids) to make a surprise Christmas gift for my parents with all 5 of their grandkids.

And the rest – is history yet to be made!

We go together
Like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong
Remembered forever
As shoo-bop sha wadda wadda yippity boom de boom
Chang chang changitty chang sha-bop
That’s the way it should be
Wah-oooh, yeah!
We’re one of a kind
Like dip da-dip da-dip doo-wop da doo-bee doo
Our names are signed
Boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy
Shooby doo-wop she-bop
Chang chang changitty chang sha-bop
We’ll always be like one, wa-wa-wa-one

Kelly & Matt: Married! It’s About Time! Fall Wentworth By The Sea NH Wedding

The love story of Kelly and Matt has the sweetest beginning! And thank goodness for their beginning because it brought them to their Fall Wentworth By the Sea NH Wedding.

Kelly tells their story like this – “I walked in and bought a car from a dealership. He took me to get the car registered, lunch and spent a lot of time calling me to follow up with my purchase. I thought he was the nicest car salesman I’d ever met and had no idea that he was trying to date me! When I first saw Matt, I clearly remember thinking he was the hottest man I’d ever seen with a gorgeous smile. 9 years later and 1 house and 1 daughter, he is the funniest, most handsome man I know and I’m honored to share my life forever with him!”

How cute is that!? All in all, this wine drinking, taco loving duo danced the night away with joy and abandon and set off to enjoy their next 9+ years together!

Nicole & John: Engaged! Prescott Park Engagement Session

Nicole & John decided on a Prescott Park Engagement Session and they brought their A-game. Not only their A-game but also a perfect picnic basket full of celebration! Uniquely their own with cupcakes, champagne, and a monogrammed cutting board!

These two lovebirds were referred to me by the beautiful were referred to me by the beautiful Jo Maden, one of my favorite officiant/celebrants! (Really, if you’re looking for someone to officiate your ceremony, check her out.  “Your ceremony, Your way.” She’s one in a million!) We crossed all the Ts and dotted all the Is and then it was time to talk about engagement photos!

It was the perfect day for a stroll through the green grass.  The wind was calm, the water was lovely, and the temperature was just right!

They really are the cutest.  I mean look at them! That, together with the fact that they are incredibly comfortable with each other made them soooooooooo easy to photography.  I’m super excited for their Wolfeboro NH Wedding next month! I’m can only imagine how stunning they’re going to look all dressed to the nines!

Heather & Brian: Engaged! York ME Sunset Engagement Shoot

Ooooooh, mother nature! You’re an unpredictable* acquaintance. I love to plan my engagement sessions for the golden hour and this York ME Sunset Engagement Shoot was no different.  What I didn’t know this evening, was just how lucky we were going to be.

We started at Nubble Light and enjoyed some snuggles and laughs.  Then Heather & Brian changed up their outfits a little and we headed down to Long Sands Beach to get our toes a little closer to the water.

We wandered down the shoreline talking and photoing (seems that’s actually a word .. none of my spell or grammar check plugins seem to think there’s anything wrong with it!). As the sky turned its cotton candy pink we wrapped up the session and headed back towards the cars.  Or so we though.  More chatting as we got our exercise in trudging through the sand and I turned to say something to them and saw the most amazing moon*! (I do realize the full moon is ‘predictable’ but the great sunset and pink moon are not!) We were technically one day shy of the October supermoon but man was it stupendous none the less! Of course, we took a few more images!  It’s hard to do it justice, but there’s certainly great difference from a cell phone photo–

The cell phone picture does it no justice — but the moon for tonight’s #engagementphotos was #unbelievable

Even the not cell phone version doesn’t do it justice – can’t wait to see what the actual #fullmoon looks like tonight!

Erica & Alex: Love, Joy & Bliss. Brookstone Event Center NH Wedding

This duo planned their Brookstone Event Center NH wedding from afar.  The bride is from NH, she was born and raised here! She moved to NC 4 years ago for a job as an ER nurse right of college. Erica met Alex via match.com a little over a year after being in NC. (I love internet dating success stories!) Alex is born and raised in NC. (Which is uncommon of people you meet in NC, EVERYONE is usually a transplant!) He manages a gym and the both of them love working out together!

Wedding Wire Love <3

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Melissa! AH-MAZING! She responded quickly to all my messages (email, facebook, etc.) and kept me at ease. Melissa knew I was stressed planning a wedding in NH from another state and she helped me with anything she could.

I chose her based recommendation from a friend and based off her website, which is fabulous. Her blog and her website let me see her personality and style which was totally what I was looking for. After chatting with her a little via emails and social media we booked my wedding! She gets to know you as a couple via a questionnaire which I thought was very smart. I was nervous never having met her in person, but when I finally got to meet her when I went to NH, she was very sweet!

Day of came and she was very organized. We had nailed down details about a month ahead of time via her worksheet she has you fill out as far as photography of family members you want, so when the day came she gathered everyone and called out the line ups and we got them done in a timely manner, but was not rushed, was just organized which I loved.

Not only that, during the getting ready in the bridal suite, when my dress literally BROKE (a clasp broke on the back when closing me in the dress, she was ready with needle and thread and sewed me into my dress. Like…WHAT?! BEST photographer ever! Not only needle and thread, she had safety pins which she used to pin the bridesmaids dresses, and a whole slew of things in her bag! Dang! She literally saved the day!

Her package options are great, and competitive. We didn’t add a second photographer to our package but she can handle the job on her own. My pictures were done about a month after the wedding and I am in LOVE with them. She didn’t miss a beat. She is phenomenal. I HIGHLY recommend!!

Shannon & Justin: Married! Dinosaurs at the Museum of Science Wedding

#thatdress! For real though – that dress.  Getting to know Shannon & Justin at their Somerville MA Engagement Session was a ton of fun.  Getting their pre-wedding worksheet where they three words they used to describe their Museum of Science wedding were “Dinner, Dancing & Dinosaurs” had me completely giddy with excitement.

Being featured on the Museum of Science’s Instagram? #bucketlist

It's always fun when the T. Rex joins in on the fun of an event at the Museum! Photo 📷 @melissakoren

The whole wedding was one of the best times ever.  All their love of science and each other was seamlessly merged together for an affair to remember.  Make sure you look through all the images and catch all the details big and small (from element table names to dancing dinosaurs!)

  • How did you meet? At work, the same department of the same company. To this day, we still work together, 50 feet apart.
  • What are you most excited about leading up to the wedding day? Locking down vendors in a timely manner (mostly because Shannon is an organizational nerd, and when she’s happy, we’re both happy)
  • What are you most excited about ON your wedding day? Having a great party with our friends and family
  • What are your favorite beverages? Her: Champagne, Him: Sake
  • What are your favorite foods? Her: Veggie sushi, Him: Mexican
  • Tell me one random fact about each of you. (Please?!) Him: I do Broga (yoga for bros, obviously lol) Her: I used to spin fire (I really hoped this would happen at the wedding..)
  • Is there anything else I should know?! The time we both love to listen to country music is when we’re in the car on long trips. We don’t listen to it otherwise.
  • How did you learn about Melissa Koren Photography? OffBeat Bride (I’ve never been so happy I decided to advertise on there!!)

Kelley & Nick: Married! Officers’ Club Newport RI Wedding

I have an obsession with bridges.  When I first visited Newport, RI to scope out the location of the 2016 Inspire Photo Retreat I was instantly in love with the Claiborne Pell Bridge.  When I checked into the hotel in February of 2016 (and 2017!) and my room had a view of the bridge I was elated.  When I drove into the Officers’ Club for this Newport RI Wedding and it was a stunning view from the OTHER side of the bridge, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.  The clouds contributed so much texture to the already delightful scene and Kelley & Nick and their whole crew just elevated everything to the next level!

Wedding Wire Love <3

We loved Melissa! She was professional, kind, knowledgeable and helpful throughout the day. From the moment she walked in she helped with everything, from getting on my veil, to helping my bridesmaids do the bustle, to effortlessly fixing my dress when someone(my groom) stepped on it and ripped it. And her pictures were fantastic. She really captured the genuine emotion throughout the day and we couldn’t be happier! We’d love to use her again!

Class of 2017: Seacoast NH Yearbook Seniors

Even though I graduated in 1996 (ugh) and not 1997 this song is still what I think about when I think about graduating high school…  Mary Schmich, Nigel Swanston, and Tim Cox and Baz Luhrmann talking to all of us over the radio.  20 years after this song was released, the message is still true to Seacoast NH Yearbook Seniors everywhere. (The video is at the bottom you know you want to watch it.)

Ladies and gentlemen of the class of ’97
Wear sunscreen
If I could offer you only one tip for the future
Sunscreen would be it

The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists
Whereas the rest of my advice
Has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience
I will dispense this advice now

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth
Oh, never mind
You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself
And recall in a way you can’t grasp now
How much possibility lay before you
And how fabulous you really looked
You are not as fat as you imagine

Don’t worry about the future
Or worry
But know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind
The kind that blindside you at 4 PM on some idle Tuesday
Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts
Don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy
Sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind
The race is long
And in the end, it’s only with yourself

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults
If you succeed in doing this, tell me how

Keep your old love letters
Throw away your old bank statements

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life
The most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives
Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t

Get plenty of calcium

Be kind to your knees
You’ll miss them when they’re gone

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t
Maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t
Maybe you’ll divorce at 40
Maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary

Whatever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s
Enjoy your body
Use it every way you can
Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it
It’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own

Dance

Even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them
Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly

Get to know your parents
You never know when they’ll be gone for good

Be nice to your siblings
They are the best link to your past
And the people most likely to stick with you in the future

Understand that friends come and go
But for the precious few you should hold on
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle
Because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young

Live in New York City once
But leave before it makes you hard
Live in Northern California once
But leave before it makes you soft

Travel

Accept certain inalienable truths
Prices will rise
Politicians will philander
You too will get old
And when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young
Prices were reasonable
Politicians were noble
And children respected their elders

Respect your elders

Don’t expect anyone else to support you
Maybe you have a trust fund
Maybe you have a wealthy spouse
But you never know when either one might run out

Don’t mess too much with your hair
Or by the time you’re 40, it will look 85

Be careful whose advice you buy
But be patient with those who supply it
Advice is a form of nostalgia
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off
Painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth

But trust me on the sunscreen
